Introduction: Welcome to "Pain", my blog and what I feel everyday being a Chicago Sports Fan!

Pain: physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury.

You just read the definition of the word "pain". It's the feeling that my beloved Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs cause me almost every day. Technically, they don't physically cause me any illness or pain, although I do feel a little sick to my stomach when I think about the double doink, Alec Martinez, Derrick Rose's knees, or the Miami Marlins.... So maybe they do actually cause me physical pain. I don't know. But what I do know is that in my many years of Chicago sports fandom, these teams sure have caused me a lot of emotional pain.

I know, you're probably thinking "dude, it's just a game, it'll be okay" but I'm in too deep. My love for sports and these teams started at a young age and I haven't looked back ever since. These teams are constantly messing up and pissing me off, but I still love em. It's kind of like a toxic relationship.

If you follow these teams, you know that they've all gone through terrible rough stretches and moments in the past 20 years, but they've also had a few incredible moments that somehow make all the pain worth it. I'll never forget where I was for the Blackhawks' three Stanley Cups in the 2010s and when the Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016. And one day when the Bears win the Super Bowl (yes, it will happen during my lifetime) and when I can finally witness the Bulls hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy, those moments will stick with me forever too.

So long story short, my favorite sports teams suck (usually) and there's always going to be something to gripe about when it comes to them. That's what this blog will be for. Over the next 14 weeks or so, your'e invited to get a glimpse into the life of a distraught Chicago sports fan. I already know there is going to be lots to talk about, probably negative stuff, but hopefully we'll see some shining moments from my teams as well in the next 14 weeks and there will be some positives to talk about too so that I'm not always complaining!

Welcome to Pain!

Glass Half Full or Half Empty?

Welcome back to the Pain blog, single digit number of faithful readers. I enjoyed my week off from writing (no, I didn't get over Andy Dalton yet) but it's time to jump back into things! It's been two weeks since the last blog and a lot has happened since then. Instead of covering just one specific thing, such as Rizzo not getting extended or the Bulls trade deadline splash, I decided that I'll talk about one thing I like currently with each of my teams and one thing that I dislike. I can't be negative all  the time, so we got a little dose of both positivity and negativity this week. Da Bears One thing I like: This is kind of a tough one. It's very hard to give the Bears any sort of praise right now. They've had a horrible offseason, but I got to say at least one positive thing. It's the rules. If there's one thing I like that the Bears have done recently, I'd say it's the Damien Williams signing. Williams was a beast for the Chiefs in the ...

The White Sox Blog

It has been brought up to me a few times since I've started the Pain blog that a certain professional baseball team in Chicago has been left out of my posts. This professional baseball team wears black and white, resides from Guaranteed Rate Field in the south side of Chicago, has a young lineup with a ton of power and swagger, stakes claim to the reigning American League MVP (and the 2005 World Series Championship!), and has the YERMINATOR...this team is none other than the Chicago White Sox. (How's that for an introduction, Sox fans?) Now, there is a decent reason I don't cover the White Sox. It's because I'm a Cubs fan. No, that doesn't mean I absolutely hate the White Sox or have anything personal against them, it's just that I don't follow them as heavily as I do with the teams that I'm a fan of. Personally, I believe that if you grow up a Chicago baseball fan, you're forced to make a choice, pretty much at birth. Cubs or Sox. There's n...
