On the Fence About Wentz

We've all seen and heard the rumors this past week about Carson Wentz potentially being traded very soon. I'm not gonna lie, I figured that by the time I wrote this blog post that it would've happened already. Thankfully for many Bears fans, such as a myself, a deal for Carson Wentz is taking longer than we expected, and that could be a good thing (if you're anti-Wentz being a Bear).

I've read a few different things about Wentz recently. One of them was that he would rather be traded to the Colts than the Bears. If this is the case, then I'm fine with it. (Screw you, Carson. We'd rather have Deshaun Watson anyway.) If Wentz wants to go to the Colts, then Philadelphia should trade him there and let the Colts give up a ton of draft capital for him. In case you couldn't already tell, I'm not a huge fan of the idea of trading a bunch of draft picks and young talent for Carson Wentz.

The other reasoning that I've heard for why a Wentz trade hasn't been made yet is the more reassuring one for both Bears and Colts fans. Apparently, the Wentz trade is taking longer than expected because teams don't like the Eagles asking price and they think that it's too high. I completely agree. Hopefully, the Bears are one of said teams that think the asking price is too high. I did make a tweet earlier this week saying if the Bears got Carson Wentz that I wouldn't complain until he actually played a game in a Bears uniform. I will stand by that IF the Bears don't unload all of their assets for his atrocious contract. If the Bears end up making a trade with the Eagles that isn't too bad, then I will stand by my word and give Wentz a chance. I mean, I gave Mitch like 100 chances so it's only fair. But if they give up way too much for him, then fuck it. I'll definitely complain.

While we sit and wait for the Bears to inevitably do something stupid, let's check in on our other beloved franchises.

The Blackhawks are actually...good? I didn't think I would be saying that this season, especially with Toews and Dach both out for the year most likely, but the Hawks have been a pleasant surprise so far. They are 3-0 in the past week and they beat the reigning Western Conference champs twice. I was concerned with their goalie situation this year but the rookie, Lankinen, has been a blessing out of nowhere in net and Subban seems to be a good backup who can steal the Hawks some wins.

Pius Suter and the other 1,000 rookies we have on the team also seem to be stepping up as well. I'm not even gonna pretend like I know who some of them are, because I don't, but I'm excited to learn more about them in the coming games here and see what they've got. Sadly, I don't get to watch many Hawks games in Peoria, because we use my roommates YouTubeTV and she's from Minnesota. (Gross, I know. At least it's not St. Louis.) So instead, I have a healthy dose of Wild games that I could watch, but I opt to watch paint dry instead.

The Bulls are confusing. It seems that they're either losing in heartbreaking fashion or winning in epic fashion. It sucks that they can't seem to string together wins yet, but it is MUCH better than the Jim Boylen dumpster fire we saw last season. Billy Donovan has been awesome as coach so far and the mix of young studs, vets, and future All-Star, Zach Lavine, guarantees the Bulls to at least be able to hang with any team in the league. Are they gonna make the playoffs? I don't know. The East is definitely wide open when it comes to the 6-8 seeds, so it'll be fun to watch the season play out. For now, all we can do is make sure that Zach Lavine gets to the all-start game, so go vote for him by clicking the link below!

Before I wrap this week up here, I want to give a shout out to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady. It's not Chicago sports related, but man...Brady seems like he's never gonna go away. It's safe to say that the football GOAT conversation has definitely been put to rest. However, people might want to relax a little bit about the overall GOAT athlete conversation, because there's a certain #23 from Chicago who might have something to say about that ;)

Introduction: Welcome to "Pain", my blog and what I feel everyday being a Chicago Sports Fan!

Pain:  physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury. You just read the definition of the word "pain". It's the feeling that my beloved Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs cause me almost every day. Technically, they don't physically cause me any illness or pain, although I do feel a little sick to my stomach when I think about the double doink, Alec Martinez, Derrick Rose's knees, or the Miami Marlins.... So maybe they do actually cause me physical pain. I don't know. But what I do know is that in my many years of Chicago sports fandom, these teams sure have caused me a lot of emotional pain.  I know, you're probably thinking "dude, it's just a game, it'll be okay" but I'm in too deep. My love for sports and these teams started at a young age and I haven't looked back ever since. These teams are constantly messing up and pissing me off, but I still love em. It's kind of like a toxic relationship.  If yo...

Full Circle

Well would ya look at that? The school year is pretty much over, meaning that this is the last scheduled weekly Pain blog...for now at least. I feel like this blog strangely came full circle in a way. I started my blog complaining about the Bears trying to trade for Carson Wentz. They didn't trade for him, so then my topics switched to hype around Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson. The Bears didn't make either of those trades. Then I had a full blog post, and numerous other disgruntled mentions, of the Bears signing Andy Dalton and naming him QB1. All hope had seemed lost and I thought for sure that I was done writing about Bears quarterbacks for a while. That was until last Thursday, when the Bears FINALLY made the right move, traded up, and got their future franchise QB in Justin Fields. If you follow me, or any Bears fan really, on Twitter, then you know that we're all hyped for Fields. I'm sure anyone reading this blog has already had a week to soak in the Bears/Fi...

Glass Half Full or Half Empty?

Welcome back to the Pain blog, single digit number of faithful readers. I enjoyed my week off from writing (no, I didn't get over Andy Dalton yet) but it's time to jump back into things! It's been two weeks since the last blog and a lot has happened since then. Instead of covering just one specific thing, such as Rizzo not getting extended or the Bulls trade deadline splash, I decided that I'll talk about one thing I like currently with each of my teams and one thing that I dislike. I can't be negative all  the time, so we got a little dose of both positivity and negativity this week. Da Bears One thing I like: This is kind of a tough one. It's very hard to give the Bears any sort of praise right now. They've had a horrible offseason, but I got to say at least one positive thing. It's the rules. If there's one thing I like that the Bears have done recently, I'd say it's the Damien Williams signing. Williams was a beast for the Chiefs in the ...
