No Pain and All Love for Zach Lavine

All I can say is that it’s about damn time. Zach Lavine is finally an all-star (officially, because Bulls fans have always known he’s an all-star) and is getting the recognition he deserves. Bulls fans have been clamoring over the past few seasons for Lavine to be recognized by the league, and this season he’s been too good for anyone to ignore. With Doctor Eggman (Jim Boylen) gone as head coach this season, Lavine and the rest of the Bulls have finally been able to play their way and fully showcase their abilities under the guidance of new head coach, Billy Donovan. Lavine may have been playing at an all-star level the past few seasons, but with the Bulls organization being abysmal overall, it was difficult for him to get any sort of recognition from the league and fans outside of Chicago. The Bulls have been in the basement of the league standings the past few seasons and weren’t really making any noise at all. But now, as of this writing, they are currently in the playoff picture in the Eastern conference and they look like a whole new team. The only thing that hasn’t changed is that Zach Lavine is still at the forefront of it all.

This season, Lavine is currently averaging 28.6 points per game (7th in the league), 5.4 rebounds per game, and 5.1 assists per game. He’s also putting up numbers on a regular basis that can only be compared to one other player in Bulls franchise history. That one other player is Michael Jordan.

Zach Lavine's insane month compared to Michael Jordan

As you can see in the video above, Lavine is having a historic month and it’s all being capped off with a much deserved all-star selection. Since not much has really changed in Chicago sports since last week, this is a fairly short post. Lavine being an all-star is definitely the biggest piece of Chicago sports news this past week, so I’m just making this blog to show him some love. To close out the post, I’ve included a cool video of Lavine’s family surprising him over Zoom to congratulate him on his all-star selection and another video with some highlights from this month. Congrats again to Zach Lavine, you’ve definitely earned this one!

Glass Half Full or Half Empty?

Welcome back to the Pain blog, single digit number of faithful readers. I enjoyed my week off from writing (no, I didn't get over Andy Dalton yet) but it's time to jump back into things! It's been two weeks since the last blog and a lot has happened since then. Instead of covering just one specific thing, such as Rizzo not getting extended or the Bulls trade deadline splash, I decided that I'll talk about one thing I like currently with each of my teams and one thing that I dislike. I can't be negative all  the time, so we got a little dose of both positivity and negativity this week. Da Bears One thing I like: This is kind of a tough one. It's very hard to give the Bears any sort of praise right now. They've had a horrible offseason, but I got to say at least one positive thing. It's the rules. If there's one thing I like that the Bears have done recently, I'd say it's the Damien Williams signing. Williams was a beast for the Chiefs in the ...

Blackhawks Up, Bulls Down, Cubs ???

Spring is one of those cool times of the year in sports. Football is out of season, but pretty much everything else is happening all at once. The NBA and NHL regular seasons are winding down and heading into the playoffs, and the MLB season is in full swing. Overall, it's a good time to be a sports fan. The real question though, is how good of a time is it to be a Chicago  sports fan right now? Neither the Bulls or Blackhawks are mathematically eliminated from the playoff picture yet, but how good are their chances? It may be early, but the Cubs have a losing record. How good will they be? Let's dive into it. The NHL regular season is almost over. Usually this time of year, we would already be watching the playoffs, but because of COVID, the regular season started late and is only 56 games, as opposed to the usual 82 games. After 47 games, the Blackhawks sit at sixth place in the central division with 49 points, which is three points behind the Nashville Predators for the fin...

Introduction: Welcome to "Pain", my blog and what I feel everyday being a Chicago Sports Fan!

Pain:  physical suffering or discomfort caused by illness or injury. You just read the definition of the word "pain". It's the feeling that my beloved Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs cause me almost every day. Technically, they don't physically cause me any illness or pain, although I do feel a little sick to my stomach when I think about the double doink, Alec Martinez, Derrick Rose's knees, or the Miami Marlins.... So maybe they do actually cause me physical pain. I don't know. But what I do know is that in my many years of Chicago sports fandom, these teams sure have caused me a lot of emotional pain.  I know, you're probably thinking "dude, it's just a game, it'll be okay" but I'm in too deep. My love for sports and these teams started at a young age and I haven't looked back ever since. These teams are constantly messing up and pissing me off, but I still love em. It's kind of like a toxic relationship.  If yo...
