Andy Dalton (Foul Language Warning)

Let me just start off by saying what the fuck, man....

Today was one of those days in Chicago sports. It was one of those types of days that exemplifies why this blog is titled Pain. I had a bad feeling that a day like today would happen sooner or later...it's the whole reason why I choose my blog topic to be what it is. I was let off easy the first few weeks, if we're being honest. I think I had one blog complaining about a potential Carson Wentz trade to the Bears (take me back to those days), I complained about the Cubs a bit, and I looked back on some past pain. Overall though, it's been smooth sailing and not too much to be weary about. But, today changed all of it. We can now say we've lived through another classic Chicago sports front office bonehead moment. The Bears signed 33 year old Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback, Andy Dalton, to a one year, $10M contract. Let's dive in, shall we?

Andy Dalton wasn't even on the radar two days ago, at least not my radar. I swear I didn't even know he was a free agent until Monday night when I read a little tweet that said something along the lines of "Bears appear to be top suitor for Andy Dalton." I tried to block it out and just ignore it, but of course it became our reality this afternoon. I know it's only a one year deal, but this is really the Bears "big quarterback push" this offseason? I feel like there has to be more to this, maybe a trade up in the draft or something, but I'm not even gonna get my hopes up at this point. I'm so sick and tired of this dumpster fire franchise, I really am. We might as well have just kept Mitch Trubisky another year, because Andy Dalton isn't an even an upgrade. The poor guy is already getting his ass flamed by Bears twitter and he hasn't even done anything wrong yet, technically. I actually feel bad for him. It's not his fault the Bears signed him, but I think he's gonna be the most hated player on the team next year just because. Bears fans are pissed off, man. It's hard enough already having to deal with mediocre quarterback after mediocre quarterback, but then in an offseason like this where the front office promises to make a big QB splash and Andy Dalton is who they get...it's just fucking unbelievable at this point. Maybe we were all a bit foolish for really thinking the Bears ever had a shot at Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson, but I don't think any of us could've seen this coming. It at least seemed like if we weren't gonna get one of the big two, then we'd at least end up with Sam Darnold or Jameis Winston or literally just someone who would be a semi-upgrade. Hell, I even mentioned earlier that now Carson Wentz is looking pretty good to me (minus his fat contract, but whatever). Maybe the Bears still have a good shot at drafting a QB, but we all know how brilliant wonderboy, Ryan Pace, is at doing that.

This post has been all over the place and very rant-ish, so I think I'm just gonna end it here. There isn't really anything else productive left to say, and if I kept going I would probably end up using even more foul language that could upset some of my 7 weekly readers. I've got my Seahawks fan friend clowning me, I got Packers fans clowning me, and I've even got people who barely watch football clowning me. But it's not just me, it's all of us Bears fans and the Bears franchise that are being clowned right now. The blood's on the McCaskey's and Ryan Pace's hands. It all starts at the top, so I'm blaming this shitshow on them. Sell the damn team and fire everyone, I don't care at this point. To all my Bears fans out there, try to have a good rest of your week and stay positive, because this one might sting for a hot minute. With all that being said, go Bulls, Blackhawks, Cubs, and even White Sox. Do your thing and make Chicago forget about the Bears, please.

Pain, man...pure pain.

Full Circle

Well would ya look at that? The school year is pretty much over, meaning that this is the last scheduled weekly Pain blog...for now at least. I feel like this blog strangely came full circle in a way. I started my blog complaining about the Bears trying to trade for Carson Wentz. They didn't trade for him, so then my topics switched to hype around Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson. The Bears didn't make either of those trades. Then I had a full blog post, and numerous other disgruntled mentions, of the Bears signing Andy Dalton and naming him QB1. All hope had seemed lost and I thought for sure that I was done writing about Bears quarterbacks for a while. That was until last Thursday, when the Bears FINALLY made the right move, traded up, and got their future franchise QB in Justin Fields. If you follow me, or any Bears fan really, on Twitter, then you know that we're all hyped for Fields. I'm sure anyone reading this blog has already had a week to soak in the Bears/Fi...

Early Onset Pain: The Beginning of my Chicago Sports Fandom

We're changing things up this week. Since I've already highlighted all four of my teams once and that things have been pretty stagnant in Chicago sports recently, this blog is gonna be a little different. We're taking a trip down memory lane and going into the stories of how I came to fall in love with the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs. This post is gonna be more personal stories and less sports recap so if you find me uninteresting, I suggest you probably stop reading now. (That's a joke, please keep reading.) Before I get started though, I do want to say that I have a feeling we'll be getting some big Bears quarterback news soon. I'm not really sure why, but I just have one of those weird gut-feelings. But maybe I'm just saying that because I need something to write about next week. If the Bears do get a new quarterback within the next week though, whether it's Russ or Watson (please), or Sammy D (no thanks), that will definitely be the topic of t...

Random First Week Cubs Observations

We're one week into the 2021 MLB season and man, did I miss good ole baseball. The Cubs are already kind of pissing me off a little bit, but that doesn't really surprise me. I expected this to be an up-and-down season and that's exactly what it's looking like so far. After one week, the Cubs are 3-3 with a 2-1 series win against the Pirates and a 1-2 series loss to the Brewers. It's not the worst start in the world, but it could definitely be better. The NL central is going to be tight all season long and really, it's anyone's division to win. I have faith that if the Cubs keep this up, they can absolutely win the division and get swept by the Braves or Padres in the first round! (kidding...kind of) I've already had a lot of random observations/overreactions about the season so far, so I'll be sharing a few that I've had and then I'll elaborate on whether or not I actually believe what I'm saying. Let's dive in. Craig Kimbrel is back...
